The Hawaii AAU sent two Outrigger trackmen, Bernard Farden and Burton Holmes, to the national AAU championships in San Francisco. Farden, who was considered Hawaii’s best sprinter at the time, suffered a leg injury during practice (spiked by another runner when he fell). Holmes, the island’s best distance runner, failed to qualify.
