Outrigger Canoe Club entered teams in both the Rainbow Relays and the AAU Track and Field Meet in 1928, finishing third in the Relays and second in the AAU meet.
In the Rainbow Relays, Palama Settlement scored 80 points, UH had 68 and Outrigger 50. OCC’s gold medals came in the:

- Quarter-mile Relay (Dick Penhallow, Phillip Dolim, Walter McGuire, Ray Melim), :44 4/5.
- Half-mile Relay (Phillip Dolim, Ray Melim, Smith, Walter McGuire), 1:33 2/5.
- Albert Gay, Pole Vault, 10′ 4″.
- Robert Gannon, High Jump, 5′ 7″.
