This is the original dedication plaque for the Outrigger Canoe Club’s new Clubhouse in Waikiki which was dedicated on February 16, 1941. The plaque was dedicated two years later in honor of the man, Walter James Macfarlane, who had served as President and raised the funds for the new buildings through the sale of bonds, after his death on June 4, 1943.
When the Club moved from its old location in Waikiki to its current location at Diamond Head, the plaque was removed and remained in the custody of John Cline Mann, who was in charge of building the new Club in 1963. The plaque was found in Cline’s files which had been donated to the Club’s Historical Committee after his death.
