Outrigger Canoe Club
This memorial is dedicated with
warmth and Aloha to our loved
ones and friends at rest in
the waters off Waikiki
Many members and their families chose to scatter their ashes at sea in front of the Outrigger Canoe Club. In 1984, the Board of Directors appointed a Memorial Plaque Adhoc Committee, chaired by Pat Olds, to develop a plaque to remember these members.
The plaque was dedicated on Memorial Day 1985 by the Reverend William Kaina, pastor of Kawaihao Church. The Club sponsors a Memorial Day Service each year on Memorial Day on the Hau Terrace. Following the service, paddlers take loose flowers brought by family members and friends to remember their loved ones, to sprinkle on the ocean where the ashes were laid to rest.
The plaque is located on the Ewa-Mauka pillar on the Hau Terrace, facing Makai.
