Coach Pump Searle led the Outrigger Canoe Club track team to its third AAU Track and Field Championship on April 16, 1927, and a third-place finish in the Rainbow Relays on April 9.
At the Rainbow Relays, held on Kamehameha Field, Outrigger scored 62 points to winner Palama Settlement’s 77 and the University of Hawaii’s 67. Earning gold medals for OCC were:
- Ray Melim, 220 low hurdles, :25.4 (new record).
- Quarter Mile Relay (Herbert Deverill, Duke Thompson, Henry Medeiros, Dick Penhallow), :44.0 (new record)
- Medley Relay (Duke Thompson, Joe Cabrinha, Dick Penhallow, Henry Medeiros), 8:17.3.
- Half-Mile Relay (Walter McGuire, George Douglas Crozier, Ray Melim, Dick Penhallow), 1:31:2
- Robert Gannon, running high jump, 5′ 8 3/4″
Also scoring points for the Club were:
- Two-mile Relay (Henry Medeiros, Duke Thompson, Deane Howland, Walter Lindsay, Harbottle), 3rd place.
- Robert Gannon, 2nd, 120 High hurdles
- Henry Wicke, 4th, Half-mile Walk.

A week later at the AAU Championships, Outrigger took home the team trophy, scoring 69 points to the University’s 59.5, Palama’s 49.5, the Army 11, and YMCA 3. Gold medals went to OCC’s:
- One-Mile Relay (Herbert Deverill, Joe Cabrinha, Duke Thompson, George Douglas Crozier), 3:32 1/5 (new record).
- Half-Mile Relay (Ray Melim, Walter McGuire, Dick Penhallow, George Douglas Crozier), 1:31 4/5 (new record)

- Ray Melim, 220-yard Low Hurdles, :26:00
