Outrigger has sponsored many sand volleyball tournaments over the years, most members only, but some that were open to the public. Many were annual tournaments, held every year; others were held some years, with lapses between. There were tournaments for all ages and abilities. Many were draw tournaments with an A and B player, plus a setter, drawn by the captain. Over the years, thousands have played in these tournaments for fun, recreation and to soothe their competitive vibes. In the 1940s and 1950s, tournaments were played over a series of weeks, often at night, after work. Today’s tournaments are generally limited to one or two days.
