Alexander Hume Ford was the founder and first president of the Outrigger Canoe Club. As he became involved in his Pan Pacific Union and the Trail and Mountain Club, non-profits that he also started, he spent less time at the Outrigger and his influence waned. In 1917 he proposed a slate of officers for the Club Board of Directors, against the Nominating Committee’s proposed slate. His slate failed. In September 1917 Ford submitted his resignation from the Club. feeling that his position in the Club was not wanted. The Board rejected his resignation and instead made him a Life/Honorary member of the Club. He continued to be involved in the Club but not again in a leadership position.
