Richard L. Burkland was awarded an honorary membership in the Club prior to 1939. According to his brother Reynolds Burkland, the membership came from Alexander Hume Ford in the mid-1920s when Dick was young. Ford had been close to the older Burkland brothers, Alfred and Reynolds (joined 1924) who were Outrigger members. From 1936-1940 Dick Reynolds lived and worked mostly on the Big Island. He was called into the Army in 1940. After the war Richard Burkland moved to Phoenix, Arizona and lived there until his death in 1983. His membership was converted to Life membership in 1964.
