The Outrigger Canoe Club has held an intra-club Surfing Contest every year since 1966. The contest is held during the summer when a south swell is most likely to hit Outrigger’s favorite surfing spots: Old Man’s and Castles. Those spots provide a great viewing point from the OCC’s Hau Terrace where members gather to watch. The Surfing Contest is only held in years when the surf reaches competition height.
The contest is open to boys, girls, men and women, from Menehune to Grand Masters ages.
In addition to board surfing, events have been added for Stand Up Surfing, Canoe Surfing and Surf Skis.
The competition is friendly, but stiff, and bragging rights are good until the next year’s contest.
