Outrigger Canoe Club’s basketball team did well in 1920, losing only one game, and finishing in a tie for second place in the AAU Basketball League. The team was coached by Percy Nottage, who also coached the Punahou School basketball team and led them to the Interscholastic League title. Nottage left halfway through the season to go to the Mainland on vacation, and the ‘Riggers missed their player/coach when he left.
The AAU League was formed in 1920 and had two divisions, one for players under 110 pounds (Junior) and one for players over 110 pounds (Senior). Outrigger had teams in both divisions. The Junior division team lost its first game and forfeited the others due to lack of players.
Outrigger’s Senior team included Nottage, Gilbert Canario, Fred Bivens, Colin Campbell, Sam Fuller, Smith and Lyman (no first names available).
