The Outrigger Canoe Club sponsored the Winter Tri-Ocean Races in December each year from 1989 to 2003. The race combined the long-running Winter 10K Paddleboard Race, the 12K Winter Kayak Race, and added the newly popular OC-1 race with an 8K course. In 1991, the kayak race was replaced with a 12K Surfski Race.
The course for the race started and ended at the OCC Beach. With each division racing a different distance, the courses varied.
As the popularity of OC-1 racing increased, and Kanaka Ikaika offered more races in its Poai Puni series, fewer paddlers entered the paddleboard and surfski divisions, and Outrigger began sponsoring one of the Kanaka Ikaika races instead of the Tri Ocean Races.
