Baseball-type sports got started in the 1950s when the Outrigger Canoe Club fielded its first mountain ball team. In later years, the Club formed a slow-pitch team to play in a softball league. The OCC team played weekdays in the mountainball league and on weekends in the softball league.
The Outrigger dominated the Surveyor’s League and the Leahi League for many years with its hot pitching and strong bats.
The sport ended when the City and County removed the softball field from Kapiolani Park in 2004 and there was no longer a field to play on.
