Biathlons

2000Biathlon 004 web
Outrigger members began entering run-swim biathlons in the 1970s and were regular participants in the Waikiki Swim Club-Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club Biathlon beginning in 1971. The event was held at Ala Moana Park with a 2.7 mile run and 800-meter swim.  Jimmy Dean, Diane Stowell and Grady Howe were among the early elite participants.

The Club began sponsoring its own OCC Biathlon in 1992 and they continued until 2002.  The Biathlon run was around Kapiolani Park and the swim in the Kapua Channel fronting the Club.  More than 100 biathletes competed.

In 2001 the OCC added a Keiki Fun Run in Kapiolani Park to the schedule.

Members continue to enter community biathlons that occur nearly every weekend somewhere on the island.  Results may be found in For the Record.
