Outrigger Canoe Club competed in both track and field events in Honolulu in 1929–the Rainbow Relays, sponsored by the University of Hawaii, and the AAU Track and Field Championships. After the final event at the AAU meet, Outrigger hung up its cleats, and ended its 12-year-run as a very competitive track and field team.
The Rainbow Relays on May 12, 1929, were won by Palama Settlement with 76 points, followed by the University of Hawaii with 56, the Army with 48, and Outrigger with 32. Outrigger lost two of its top competitors when Ray Melim and Cabby Cabrinha jumped to the Palama team. Winning Gold medals for the Outrigger were:
- Sam Clarke, Pole Vault, 10′ 10″
- Arthur Wriston, Shot Put, 40′ 9 7/8″
- Peter Kahler, Discus, 131′ 4 1/2″
Others who earned medals were:
- Al Gay, 3rd, Polve Vault
- Two-mile Relay, 4th
- One-mile Relay, 3rd
- Medley Relay, 3rd
- Half-mile Relay, 4th
At the AAU Championships, Outrigger finished fifth, behind the Army, University, Palama and Nuuanu YMCA. Winning Gold were:
- Sam Clarke, Pole Vault, 10′ 10″
