This plaque welcomes members and guests at the front entrance to the Outrigger Canoe Club. It was dedicated in January 1964 when the Club moved from its former location in Waikiki to Diamond Head. The plaque reads:
Outrigger Canoe Club
Founded 1908
“This building, beach and lagoon dedicated January 1964”.

“Let this be a place where man may commune
with sun and sand and sea, where good
fellowship and aloha prevail and where
the sports of old Hawaii shall always have a home.”
The message was written by Cline Mann.
The bronze plaque was fabricated by Oregon Brass Works of Portland, Oregon. It is a three-dimensional facsimile of the Club symbol, the “O” with crossed paddle, and beneath it are the words as shown above. It was installed in January 1968.
It was the Building Committee’s hope that the inspiring sentiment expressed on the plaque will serve as a perpetual reminder to all of us of the basic principles upon which our beloved Club was founded.
