On December 15 and 16, 1965 the Japanese Men’s Olympic volleyball team, straight off a bronze medal performance in Tokyo, came to Hawaii for five matches against a Hawaii All-Star team led by Outrigger’s Pete Velasco, Tom Haine and Paul MacLaughlin. The first two games were played at the Honolulu International Center. Other games were played on the Neighbor Islands. Japan gave Hawaii tough competition, winning the first night with scores of 15-5, 17-15, 15-3 and 15-3. The second night results were Japan 15-7, 15-3 and 15-11.
