The Masters Trophy for the George “Dad” Center Memorial Long Distance Canoe Race was introduced at the 2015 race. The trophy was formerly the Makule Trophy for the Walter J. Macfarlane Regatta that was retired in 1988 when masters division races in several age groups replaced the makule race.
The trophy was designed and created in 1979 by Domie Gose and Hank Lass from a slice of a koa log. The log slice is 15″ wide and 25.5″ high. The base is 16″ wide, 12″ deep and 1.5″ high. The canoe is 22″ long. The canoe is a replica of Outrigger’s historic Leilani koa racing canoe.
