1932
Silver Medal, Swimming, 800-Meter Relay
1932 Olympic Games
Los Angeles, California
Frank Ewen Booth was a Stanford University graduate and was swimming for the Los Angeles Athletic Club prior to the 1932 Olympics.
He often competed in the 400-meter freestyle against Buster Crabbe and Frank Walton, who would later become an Outrigger member also.
Booth qualified for the Olympic team in both the 400 and 800-meter freestyles, but only swam on the U.S. 4 x 200-meter freestyle relay at the Games. The U.S. relay team finished second behind the world-record setting Japanese team that was timed in 8:58.4. The U.S. team finished in a blistering 9:10.5, also breaking the world record but getting the Silver medal.
Also swimming on the relay with Booth, were Hawaii speedsters Maiola Kalili, his brother Manuella Kalili, and George Fissler.
Booth became a Nonresident member of the Outrigger Canoe Club in 1970 and loved meeting up with his fellow Olympic swimmers while in Hawaii.
